What a shame as he had some special treats in store for us.

It's a real pity that his shows sometimes get challenged due to what it seems an increasingly abnouxious crowd , which I assume none of them are here :-)

enjoyed the show. It was indeed FACE MELTING ROCK without much banter, and plenty of stuff most of the audience would not have heard before. The crowd was actually VERY appreciative, and it was my impression that Ryan flounced off at the end because of sound issues with his monitor or vocals rather than crowd noise. Having said that playing such a loud rock set in such a venue and then switching to quiet solo piano tunes as an encore is hard to pull off.

Highlight: Magnolia Mountain, four songs into the set. Never really cared for this track on the record but blimey live it really took off – after that the crowd were eating out of the palm of his hand.

Overall a top gig - lovely to see a very different type of show after the ‘acoustic’ tour earlier in the year.

It was a shame the encore was cut short, I think it would have been close to the best I've seen Ryan.

Why do people feel the need to shout out, I've never had the urge? Just let him get on and play. To be fair to the Brummies I don't think there were many of them there, I didn't hear a Midlands acent all night.

Nevermind - can't wait till the next time.

Maybe Ryan's just getting pissed off with the negative vibes....Please God don't let him go into meltdown before the end of the tour is all I can say for those of us who haven't had the chance to see him yet. I know he has a reputation for being difficult but maybe underneath he's actually a sensitive guy and apart from us diehard (?) fans there do seem to be some folks out there only too happy to knock him. I have previously heard that he doesn't much like touring in the UK and I think I'm starting to see why.

I was there, it was fantastic.

I shouted out, but it was only once and all I said was "Helloo Ryan" while waiting for the next song!

The girl shouting out before the last song wasnt asking for "something we know" as Ryan thought she was saying, she was actually shouting at the knobheads screaming at the back!

"Everything Dies" was fucking beautiful.

For me, this show was completely spoiled by so many drunken idiots. I seemed to be surrounded by them. None of them wanted to hear anything new & get this: The guy beside me was yelling at the top of his voice during Games, & I quote, "A million times better than this song." He spent more time with a bottle of poppers stuffed up his nose than watching the band!
You could hear constant loud chattering whenever there was a quiet moment. Poor old Neal was fighting a losing battle during his set.
A complete contrast from Nottingham, where the crowd were respectful yet really into it & the band were firing on all cylinders. maybe if I hadn't witnessed Nottingham I would've enjoyed it more because don't get me wrong the band were still excellent & the solo piano numbers, a treat even with the racket going on but to me it never quite took off last night.
Bring on Cambridge & be warned, Rosebud's lending me one of his guns, so any pissed up nobs will be shot on sight!

did anyone see anyone plugged into the desk getting a feed to record the show?
This was the first show i managed to get to since Manchester way back in 02, (or was it 03 ?), and it blew me away.
Yes, large sections of the audience at the rear were noisy (and it is really hard to understand that - why don't they stay at home, watch MTfuckinV and save themselves some cash too?) and it was a shame it got cut short with Ryan going off in a bit of a strop. I too thought he was pissed off at the sound, there was a fair bit of rumbling bass feedback in his monitors for a while on the last piano song and maybe he'd had enough trying to tame the beast.

Incidentally, there was a moment in one of the jams where I swear they could have gone into Truckin' (Grateful Dead), and then 30 seconds later they were almost playing The Other One (also a GD classic for those not familiar). So nice to hear these musical references, and I bet most of it was completely lost on most of the audience. (Or was i imagining it, as one of the few deadheads in the audience ?)

By the way, I know it's early days as it was only yesterday, but is there going to be a bootleg of this show put up?

PLEASE say there is! It was my first Ryan show and I'd love to own the recording!

Yeah I was at the show and the actual music was incredible, the harmonies were haunting and Ryan's voice was tip top. The only thing was that I hadn't heard much of the two albums with the Cardinals so didn't know many of the songs, which I think was the same for a lot of people there and why the atmosphere was a bit weird. But that's no excuse for talking and shouting over the songs, complete idiots! I've seen three shows now and they've all been completely different, that's the beauty of the man! Can't wait for the next one..

Ace, just wanted to know!

Neal Casel messed up the riff to Cold Roses a few times throughout the song, Ryan looked a bit pissed off!

The girl shouting was near me and what she actually said was "play something from 'Gold'".I bet she feels pretty bad now as I'm sure she contributed to the sudden end of 'Everything Dies'...I think his annoyance was half sound problems and half the crowd really as members of the audience kept interrupting when he was trying to speak.

My friend emailed me this morning telling me how good the Birmingham show was. Im so looking forward to Cambridge tonight I cant concentrate on anything. Awesome muller, you'll love it.

Well from all the reading, it looks like the audiences are topping us Yanks in obnoxiousness.

I will say this though, Ryan encourages it. Face it, if he never responded, it would eventually stop. Each time Ryan scolds the audience, he reinforces some drunken asshole. Just like when he posts at the .org, it's understandable that some folks are overwhelmed by the contact.

My advice is for Ryan to stop responding to crowd shouts. Go ahead and banter to the crowd on your own terms but ignore the asses. Eventually it may stop.

Sorry that you got a bummer crowd Factory, there certainly should be an open season on them! Thing is, there's just no talking to those types. If you say anything, they'll just step it up and get worse.

Is there any post on the forum that lists all the unreleased songs played on the tour so far, and when and if they are likely to appear on record?

Ryan has a reputation of playing songs that the audience shout out and I think the fact that he wasnt responding at all was making them try harder to get his attention.

And in response to someone saying that the girl was shouting "Play something from Gold", I take back what I said before then, and I'd like to take this opportunity to call her a gobby bint.
