Rosebud, I love Jorma and Hot Tuna too! I lived in Boulder CO for a couple of years and saw Jorma many many times...I knew him back then, but he'd never remember me now.

I wish I could remember the name of that little club he played constantly. Anyway, in college too I got to meet him backstage and "party" with him. The worst thing of all is I was scheduled to see Jorma and Jack out here (Chicago) but couldn't make it into the city. It was blizzarding and there was just no way. The same night the plane slid off Midway, so I guess it just wasn't meant to be. To say I was crushed would be an understatement. I was SO looking forward to that damn show.

Wow, my own discussion title. I'm all verklept!

I see Jorma and Jack at least once a year as they play in Poughkeepsie, NY each Thanksgiving. Have many fine recordings. Have you seen them since Barry's been with them? His mandolin adds a nice flair.

Since we're on Jorma, there was just an article in this jewish newspaper called The Jewish Standard. I happen to have a free subscription...yadda yadda yadda....anyway, it came last Friday and I look at the cover and it's Jorma. There was an article on how his mother is jewish, which makes him technically jewish, and he seems to be finding his jewish roots. In my life, I never thought I would ever live to see the day that Jorma was on the cover of this little jewish newspaper. I was all valklempt! They even had a thread on it in the Philzone.

Hope you are doing well Blossom. Nice to see you!

I have not heard Barry, Rosebud.

How cool is that AmyG. One of my Ryan friends said his name is classic finnish? It is an unusual name, but I never gave it that much thought.

I have always loved Water Song so very much.

You know you have made it when you get your own thread!

I have never understood why when we get these lists of "100 greatest guitarists" that Jorma is not in the top five (at least). There's a lot of great quality live JA knocking around, and its all well worth tracking down to hear just how good Jorma was at the time.

After being such a fan of the electric Airplane I was interested to hear the acoustic Hot Tuna and some of Jorma's solo stuff, especially after hearing his superb Quah album. And I am glad to say it is just as good.

Jerry will always be the number one guitarist for me, but if anyone here has not done so, you need to check out Jorma for yourself. If you can start with that Quah album.

My only slag on the Tuna boys is that they don't change things up enough. If you've heard a Genesis in the past 10 years, you've heard Genesis. Versions don't stray too far from each other.

I see Jack and Jorma each year at Thanksgiving in Poughkeepsie, NY. It's been 6 years straight now but I can't imagine seeing 4 or 5 shows in a row. I could do 10 RA shows in a row just like the Dead easily.

So many fine songs though.

...well up in the morning watch the North wind rise.....

I think Ryan could mix up his setlist more too! There are so many songs we will NEVER hear; I'd trade "Oh My Sweet Carolina" or "Dear Chicago" for some others at this point.

True, but at least he performs them vastly different, at least on occasion.
