A power trio with trumpet and 100 voices...A metal version of Phil Ochs and Bob Dylan...folk metal protest.
As I'm sure most of you know Living With War is Neil Young's new albumn. And it is fucking fantastic. Utterly rocking, devastatingly meaningful and right.
Today, the full albumn has been made available to stream from Neil's website.

To be honest, last year's Prairie Wind doesn't even compare to this. I could just waffle on or you could listen and find yourself trying to describe like I am. :D
woottttttt Fuck Bush. wavef
I'm listening, and I'm loving it!
"A power trio with trumpet and 100 voices..."...............hahahahah, great observation!

So, anybody other than me a kees listened to this? Put it on real loud. Bloody awesome. Heaviest music I've ever liked.
You can headba.ng to this man with no shame. Headba.nging along to this is taking Bush out of power!
edit: Haha, I had to get around the "censor" for ba.ng. :D

I haven't listened to it yet blueone, but you've convinced me I should. :)
As an aside, its interesting how protest albums are making a comeback bigtime. Neil Young, Springsteens last two (the Seeger Sessions is filled with anti-war messages without being overtly political), Josh Ritter's The Animal Year etc. There are probably more. I guess it says something about the times we live in.

the 60's was vietnam.
the 00's is iraq
Artists nowadays are now realising it's all a load of shit. Just like they did 40 years before. Of course, Neil Young is revisting his political side.
I just wish Bob Dylan would too. I think 40 years is enough time for people to get over a political sensation of youth.

I haven't listened to PW enough to decide whether I'm a fan of it or not, and from the sound of things I may not listen to this one too much either.
But I'll buy it anyway - I'll never know when I might like it :)
It just sounds as though Neil has lost his knack for killer melodies and his vocals sound way more forced than they ever have. I know it was 16 years ago (!), but the let it rip, hell's bells sound of 'Ragged Glory' would suit these songs to a tee pee.

Considering I am a bigger Neil fan than Ryan fan, I was really excited when stories of the album begin to surface about 3 weeks ago. I was also a little worried about the quaility...were we going to get another Ohio or was it going to be another Let's Roll. After listening to the whole album 3-4 times, I have to admit that it is better than I thought it would be.
I really love After The Garden, Restless Consumer and Shock & Awe. While some of the melodies might be recycled, the playing is VERY inspired. And the whole "Flip/Flop" thing in Let's Impeach The President ended up working pretty effectively!
If there are a couple sites with the album in MP3 format if you want to download and burn a copy. But you can also buy it soon enough! Highly recommended....
yea, i listened to this a few times yesterday, i dig it. when's the official release date?

Been listening to this non-stop since Friday (along with the new Pearl Jam). Unfuckingbelievable. What surprises me is the catchiness of the songs. I don't think Neil has written an album of this lyrical quality paired with hooks like these like these since Mirrorball. Sure a lot of lines in here can be made fun of for their corn-ball quality, but that's always been the case with Neil. He's the only one who can pull off what he does. His vocals are top notch as well. So much emotion pouring out. This one will be remembered for a long time to come I think.

I just got this record this morning. (Well dowloaded. I still use the term record since that's the only way I buy music. I refuse to buy cd's.) Fanfuckingtastic. I loved the last record but Living With War blew it out of the water. Dare I say, but this may be the most punk rock record to come out this year. Everything about it sounds like one track straight to tape no overdubs protest rock. I just can't say enough about this amazing album. Let's hope it comes out on vinyl so I can send some dough Neil's way.
