Its funny, that comment about winding wheel got me and the missus talking about the origins of the song. There's a theatre in chesterfield near sheffield called the winding wheel and we've always joked that its the inspiration for the song title but last night got me wondering if it by some chance might be! I know the link to the function of a winding wheel is in the lyrics of the song but it would still be very funny if in some distant tour in sheffield 11 years ago he saw a flyer or something for our small local theatre and stole the name!

Actually The End and Lucky Now were the other way around-otherwise it's spot on.

What a great show-despite the aforementioned drunken muppet (who was almost right in front of me). Ryan seemed to be in a much better mood than he was at Gateshead-lots more playful banter/stories/improvs etc. "Mr Cat" was genius.

I've been in The Winding Wheel in Chesterfield quite a few times. Always walk around singing it.

Also, agreed with the point about feeling sorry for the guy who made the joke about the rain and Ryan's response. It wasn't a heckle, just a witty comment but Ryan couldn't hear so assumed it was negative.

Anyway, great show

hey, yeah it was me in row C! it was really cool to have a chat with you too! nice to finally put a face to a username on here! glad you enjoyed the sheffield gig too! your right though, i think it would have been great to see where ryan would have taken the gig if this tour was as random as the last two tours have been! but it was still an awesome night! im hoping for a similar evening tomorrow and hopefully an encore with jason isbell! good times all round! :-)

Re: 12/04/27 Sheffield City Hall - Set + Reviews

Finally got a minute and the internet to comment.

Personally, better than last years manchester gig, sound was brilliant i thought and a well respectful crowd - this is Sheffield!

Highlights - PDNLMG, The End, Do I Wait, Mr Cat > NY, NY

Brilliant all round, was about to tell the two girls in front of me (who were constantly kissing each other and talking) to shut the fuck up, but the guy next to them did it, then they left!!

Anyone know what that guy got dragged out for??? Recording???
