Re: MCA Adam Yauch
Good shtuff KIB. I was shopping at Lowes, buying stuff for my garden, when my brother sent me a text about MCA. It was for sure shocking. I'm 31 now, and I still remember the first two albums my brothers and I had (I have two older brothers). The first was Michael Jackson Thriller, and the second was Beastie Boys Licensed to Ill. Albums of my youth for sure, so it's always strange when people I grew up on start dying (especially so young).
Perhaps the feeling of mortality sets in a little more, or maybe it's an opening to the fragileness of things. I don't know... But it made me reflect. My brothers and I use to take two tape stereos, put them face to face and play that Beastie Boys album on one and record on the other. We took those songs and rewrote the lyrics or just mixed them differently. It's was all pretty silly, and they all sound terrible to hear them now, but those were good memories. That album inspired my brothers and I to be creative and explore music. Oh to go back to those silly times..
