Times 100 best albums of the decade. Interesting result for Ryan
Ok, so i have no idea why i even read 100 best anything lists, but ocasionally i stumble upon them, in the RS and NME polls predictably Gold and Heartbreaker were listed and of course while they are great albums, neither are my favorite.
The times however listed Ryan at number 54 with............. 29. Here is what they had to say.
54. 29 - Ryan Adams (Mercury, 2005)
Freudian analysis, prompted by the onset of Adams’ 30th birthday, yielded a song-cycle loosely based on his own (mercifully unrealised) suicide, as told through characters representing aspects of the singer’s personality.
And very well deserved i say, for a very under rated album!

sometimes (I find) hipsters can be even more close minded (narrow minded) and predictable than just more 'ordinary' people. whatever.

agreed... i like the description. but... why does it say it was released by mercury?
edit: nevermind. i thought this was time magazine here, not a UK magazine. mercury is part of universal, so it makes sense.

The way I remember it, it was just a "concept" for the album. Kinda like what flashes before one's eyes as they pass over to the other side. I used to have the podcast. I'll see if I can round it up. Otherwise Google it. It was for the Times of London.

very interesting result.
29 remains my fave out of the cardinal and beyond era. infact id say its my 2nd fave ryan album.

i totally agree. it is interesting that TIME would rank that album but hey, i always felt it was underrated and i hate when ppl say it's weak or w/e. songs like blue sky blues and voices are some of ryans finest. god such a beautiful album. im glad to see it get some recognition here!

I couldn't stop listening to "Strawberry Wine" when this came out. "Carolina Rain" is one of my all-time faves and the instrumental portion at the end of "Elizabeth" can almost bring me to tears every time.
I was 27 when this came out, but I was definitely staring down 30 in a similar way. What a time!

That is so interesting! Not sure if I fully realised all that...about the making of the album. experiences behind it. boy, he's come along way in a short time. 2005 ain't that long ago! I mean it sounds like that was a pretty dark period for him.
