He has to do Shakedown and Goodnight Rose. He just has to.
(Memories Of You would be my dream choice though)

Nice to see a few surprises dropping into these setlists and fingers crossed for more to come.
A California Gasoline is my dream choice for today.

Just heard, apparently only a 90 minute set? That must be slightly disappointing. My mate said it was impressive though

Ryan also played 'Games' in between 'Freeway' and 'Shakedown'...

Re: 2009-01-31 Melbourne, Australia - Setlist/Review
Amazingly disappointing show. They played better than last night (if that was possible) and the home stretch of Shakedown/Goodnight/Dear John etc. was truly outstanding. But the show was fraught with some feedback problems and Ryan had the same issue he had last night (not sure what it was but he kept pointing to his ear and motioning offstage as though he couldn't hear anything). He seemed generally pissed off and didn't talk much (save the brief Bad News Bears bit). They played just under 90mins. It had the potential to be a truly great show but in the end was just really good.

Re: 2009-01-31 Melbourne, Australia - Setlist/Review
Thought so! From all reports, the problems which threatened to ruin things on Friday night took hold tonight. Does anyone know how the crowd was? I thought it may not be the biggest crowd, considering how quickly the Friday show sold out.

Re: 2009-01-31 Melbourne, Australia - Setlist/Review
Such a contrast from last night . I was hoping for a three-hour show and to maybe hear How Do You Keep Love Alive. Oh well, I got two excellent shows at least.

Crowd was great. The Forum looked pretty full, so it must have been pretty close to sold out.

Well I'm glad to see a decent crowd turned out. Shame about the short set, maybe the heat all week has taken its toll a little bit?

Re: 2009-01-31 Melbourne, Australia - Setlist/Review
It was still a fairly decent sized crowd - standing area was completely packed but a little roomier up the back of the room.
It was such a brilliant show up till the point that they all said goodnight - people were in disbelief that it was over! No-one moved for 10 minutes after it was finished. In fact, the roadies had packed up half the stage, the desk was all packed up and most of the crowd were still there, chanting 'we want more' and clapping and stamping.
Peaceful Valley was a huge highlight for me, as were Goodnight Rose and Dear John. Just stunning. And Games... I was so rapt that he played it!

Re: 2009-01-31 Melbourne, Australia - Setlist/Review
Na, I don't think it was the heat. It really wasn't that hot today, it felt about 30C to me.
At last night's show, Ryan mentioned the heat quite a few times at the beginning, but he was very playful and chatty all night.

Re: 2009-01-31 Melbourne, Australia - Setlist/Review
That's true...I'm just looking for excuses! 90 minutes is really short for a Cards set, isn't it? I haven't heard of one going that quickly.

Re: 2009-01-31 Melbourne, Australia - Setlist/Review
Man that was frustrating. I was really getting into the show and then it all ended so unexpectedly 77 mins into it. Just last night I was bagging out Noel Gallagher, who I'd seen at the same venue a couple of years ago, because his gig was more than $1/minute (he played about a 65 min set for $75). Well tonight's show came damn close to repeating that feat.
The crowd was fine. Not sold-out, but still pretty packed. Someone yelled out a request to turn up the slide guitar, which Ryan mocked him about, but sound-wise the mix sounded awesome - much better than the previous night (which was still very good).
As reidca mentioned the only 'obvious' indication that there was a problem was Ryan pointing at his IEM and gesticulating and then shaking his head in obvious frustration - this happened a couple of times. Then he said something along the lines of 'some nights feel like the bad news bears, others like the worse news bears...tonight feels like the no news bears'...then they played maybe one more song and bid everyone good night. Gah!
For comparisons sake the typed setlist was:
A Kiss Before I Go
Two
Please Do Not Let Me Go
Fix-It
Everybody Knows
Wonderwall
Off Broadway
Let It Ride - Crossed out
Stars
Dear John
Freeway to the Canyon - Crossed out
Games
The Sun Also Sets
Mockingbird
OMGW Etc
The Rescue Blues
How Do You Keep Love Alive
Born into a Light
Goodnight Rose
Down In A Hole
Peaceful Valley
Grand Island
Evergreen
Magick
Come Pick Me Up
I See Monsters

Try all the 2007 shows
I went to the Melbourne one and the two Sydney ones in 2007 and one of them only went for about 75 min.
