Red White And Blue Guitar from the Live Shows

....its called the Buck Owens Silvertone 3219 (by Harmony, based on the H164)

Im just wondering if anyone knows of one for sale, ive searched endlessly (for about an hour or so online) and cant track one down, except for a banged up one on ebay for 540 yoyos (cracked back among other things).

Im fairly sure there are none in Ireland, so if any one in the US knows of a guitar shop that has one laying a round could you let me know?

Cheers,

Dev.

Also, if any one has one themselves and are willing to part with it, I would be happy to trade Love is Hell and Rock n Roll (Murder Cover) vinyls plus $'s for it.

Re: Red White And Blue Guitar from the Live Shows

It appears you should contact this guy.

http://www.edroman.com/

The original Buck Owens guitar which was used on the Hee Haw show was a custom built by Semie Moseley of Mosrite Guitars.

Here are quotes from Buck Owens website.

In 1966 Buck and The Buckaroos had their instruments painted red, white and blue, an extension of Buck’s innate patriotism. When these instruments were seen on Hee Haw, guitar manufacturers began making offers to him to market a guitar in those colors. Though Buck used a red, white and blue acoustic guitar built for him by Semie Moseley of Mosrite Guitars, his business sense told him an expensive model of that type wouldn’t sell to the uninformed public.

He finally licensed Chicago Musical Instruments (Owners of Gibson guitars) to market a $99 acoustic model, and received a $2.50 royalty on each sold. He knew that Sears would market them but had no idea they would sell as well as they did until the first royalty check came.

"The very first statement, they sent me $15,000 he laughs. "I said, ‘Oh, you mean THAT Sears!"

Harmony Sovereign had made a reissue of this guitar called the American Pride which sold in 2005. It was a limited edition guitar and are starting to become a collectible because of the short production run. The colors of this guitar are a little different from the original Buck Owens. Red is deeper and not as bright and the blue is deeper as well. More like a navy blue than a royal blue.

Mosrite Issued A Mark 1 in Red White & Blue in 2001. There were very few made, If you want one contact Ed Roman Personally at 702-875-4552

Re: Red White And Blue Guitar from the Live Shows

One of the Harmony American guitars appeared on eBay a few days ago and was due to end in the early hours of Monday morning UK time.

The auction was pulled by the seller yesterday morning with 4 days to go. I assume they got an offer they couldn't refuse!

It had started at $0.99 with No Reserve and within 3 days had 10 bidders and got to $710 before the ad was pulled.

I saw one of these on eBay a few months back too.

As someone else said below, you're looking at spending a lot of cash if you want one of these!!

Re: Red White And Blue Guitar from the Live Shows

I'd like to note that if your looking to buy one of these, almost all of them will need a neck reset to be optimized. A lot of people sell these guitars as original condition, but of the ones I've seen, few were playable out of box. So depending on the asking price eBay or otherwise, you'll likely want to add about $500-$1000 in repairs post-purchase. On the bright side, mine sounds way better after a neck reset and bone nut/saddle replacement.

Very good points Dave....

I commented on this in another thread and said that a "playable" example will likely cost you between $2,000 and $3,000. Most of the Ebay ones that come up will need major work as you have stated above (..which can add up very quickly)...I spent almost £800 getting my H1260 up to playing condition and it still has issues....

My thoughts? At these prices,..buy a Gibson. You will have a far better sounding acoustic. The Ladder bracing and Birch back and sides don't sound great on these Harmonys. Any serious player will considered them an OK blues slide guitar - and that high action often suits this!!!.

Don't forget these were budget guitars when they were sold from SEARS in the USA in the 70's. The workmanship was often poor as they pumped them out in the 1,000's!!!

The days of buying one on the cheap for under $500 are long gone thanks to Ryan and Nirvana making them popular...

Re: Red White And Blue Guitar from the Live Shows

The last one on eBay was being sold by a vintage guitar dealer and do had been setup to play.

Still, considering the price ($710) it reached in half the auction time I wouldn't have been surprised if it went over $2000 had they let the auction run.

I was tempted myself but there's no way I'm spending that amount of cash.
Like has been said below, you're better off buying a Gibson!

Noticed Ryan has a second Buck Owens now on the tour, paintwork looks in a bit better shape than his old one.

Re: Red White And Blue Guitar from the Live Shows

In spite of the Buck Owens being a cheaply constructed guitar, I gotta say I've been playing mine more than some better guitars I own. As like most harmonys, they have a unique sound, and the Buck Owens specifically very boxey and dry. I have about $2k invested in mine, and I like it better than some of the $2k+ factory boutique things I've owned in recent years. It's not a superior guitar by any stretch, but it is just so vastly different from anything else I've ever had.

Personally I preferred when he had his H1264 black Harmony plus the Buck. It gave him a variance of tone, with the Harmony being much more of a cannon boomy sound for songs that require it, and the Buck being much more folksy.

In relation to that ad on ebay, what happened there? It says on the stores website that it is still up for sale but the ad was pulled a few days early.

I was watching an ad for a knackered buck owens a few months back, the marks on the top where identical to the latest ad's. The older ad billed the guitar to be an almost unplayable state, Neck reset etc. I noticed the new ad's guitar also needed a reset despite it being stated as ready to play etc. I say they bought the kanckered one and just shined it up a bit.

Still doesnt explain why it was pulled though.
